Abstract

Description

This study aimed to specifically assess the psychometric properties, validity and reliability of the Malay version of the Multicultural Supervision Inventory (MSI) among registered counsellors in Malaysia. Given the diverse sociocultural landscape of the country, there is an urgent need for a culturally responsive tool to assess multicultural supervision competence. Using a quantitative research design, data were collected from 150 registered counsellors via online and offline platforms. Back-translation and content validation by subject matter experts ensured linguistic and conceptual equivalence, while psychometric analyses including Cronbach's alpha, split-half reliability and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) were used to examine internal consistency and factor structure. The results showed that the Malay version of the MSI had acceptable levels of content validity and internal consistency (a > 0.78 for most subscales), indicating its suitability for use in Malaysian counselling settings. This study provides theoretical and practical implications for multicultural supervision, contributing to improved counsellor education, supervisory practice and policy development in Malaysia.
