Abstract

Description

Communication well-being refers the comfort of conveying something through someone or another medium during a conversation. Community life requires effective and adaptable communication for peaceful and secure communal living. Utilizing model of communication well-being (PERMA) as a research framework, this study is to examine the communication well-being in the residential area of Flat Sungai Plan, Bintulu. The study involved 155 respondents, all residents from the B40 group. The results indicate a significant relationship between residential distance with the frequency of interactions in the neighbourhood community (P-value <0.001). Additionally, the PERMA factors reveal that positive emotions and a sense of meaning significantly contribute to shaping communication well-being. Familiarity among neighbors influences interaction patterns within the residents' community. This study focuses only on the Flat Sungai Plan community in Bintulu, specifically those residing in low-cost flats. The sampling method employed is purposive sampling. This indicates that the study can be generalized to the entire population in Flat Sungai Plan Bintulu or low-cost flats in the Sarawak region. Therefore, future researchers are encouraged to explore social communication based on the standard of living (B40, M40 & T20) in various communities, especially in Malaysia. In conclusion, residents in densely populated areas such as flats demonstrate an ability to cultivate a positive atmosphere within the flat community itself.
