Abstract

Description

The Smart Library Management System (SLMS) is developed to address the lack of personalization, real-time notifications, and efficient management in traditional library systems. These systems often fail to provide tailored reading experiences and timely updates to users, leading to poor user engagement and operational inefficiencies for librarians. This project presents a web-based solution that integrates genre-based filtering algorithms to offer personalized book recommendations based on users’ borrowing and bookmarking behaviours. Real-time email notifications are implemented to keep users informed about due dates, request statuses, and new arrivals. The system also features an intuitive admin dashboard for managing book inventories and user interactions. Functional and usability testing demonstrated that users found the recommendations accurate and the interface user-friendly, with an 80% satisfaction rate. The findings suggest that SLMS significantly enhances user experience and operational workflows in library management. Its implementation showcases how simple algorithmic personalization and timely notifications can transform traditional library environments into smart, engaging, and efficient digital systems.
