Abstract
Description
Educational video games are a platform where any sorts of educational contents like cultural heritage can be promoted. There is a lack of educational video games about Bidayuh culture that can provide both engaging and educational content. In this project, the issue is addressed by developing an educational video game about Bidayuh culture using Unity Game Engine. The game, which is called Spirit of The Harvest, incorporates elements from existing video games, including RPG game mechanics, inventory, quest, transaction, and crafting systems. Each game mechanic and element in the game are inspired by existing video games. While the main focus of the game is to promote Bidayuh culture, there are also fantasy elements being implemented. These elements and game mechanics combined allow the game to be both educational and engaging to players. Results of the testing phase conducted with the help of 31 participants show that the game scored high usability and engagement score. Feedback given were also mostly positive, with many praising the educational impact and cultural storytelling. The project highlights the potential of video games as a medium for cultural preservation
