Abstract

Description

Traffic violations have been a persistent challenge in developing countries, posing public threats such as road accidents, traffic congestion, and decreased quality of life for citizens. Current traffic management systems suffer from critical limitations including data manipulation, lack of transparency, inefficient penalty tracking, and corruption in enforcement. Traditional centralized systems are vulnerable to unauthorized alterations, which has led to significant revenue losses and decreased public trust. This project proposes a Blockchain-Based Traffic Violation Logging and Penalty Management System to address these challenges by leveraging the transparency, security, and decentralization offered by blockchain technology. The system ensures all traffic violations are logged in an immutable blockchain ledger, which prevents data tampering and maintains record integrity, while smart contracts automate penalty issuance and tracking to reduce human intervention and corruption risks. Through a unified web-based platform, the system provides real-time access to violation data for both drivers and authorities, ensuring seamless user engagement. Detailed testing validated the system's effectiveness through functional testing including unit testing of individual components, and non-functional testing consisting reliability, compatibility, and user acceptance testing, demonstrating that the system meets stability requirements and end-user expectations. Future enhancements include implementing persistent wallet and certificate storage for production-ready deployment, and enhancing blockchain network scalability to support higher transaction throughput for real-world traffic management scenarios. By implementing these technological innovations and addressing inefficiencies in traditional enforcement systems, this solution fosters accountability and trust among stakeholders. In the long run, it contributes to safer roads, reduced congestion, and improved quality of life for citizens in developing countries.
