Abstract
Description
This study explores the key factors influencing international medical tourists’ expectations and their intention to revisit Sarawak as a medical tourism destination. Guided by the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), the research examines five independent variables: infrastructure, quality of medical tourism treatment, medical tourism and other costs, characteristics of the medical tourism destination, and validation of medical tourism service quality. Using a quantitative method, data were collected from 194 respondents at three medical institutions in Sarawak: Timberland Medical Centre, KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital, and Borneo Medical Centre. The findings indicate that all five factors significantly impact medical tourists’ expectations, which in turn influence their intention to revisit. The study highlights the importance of delivering high-quality healthcare services, improving infrastructure, maintaining affordable costs, and enhancing the overall destination image. These insights provide valuable implications for healthcare providers, policymakers, and tourism stakeholders in developing strategic initiatives to strengthen Sarawak's position in the global medical tourism market.
