Abstract
Description
Humans are social beings, to some extent everyone has a feeling of inferiority when they socialize with other people. University students are a group of people who are more likely to be influenced by inferiority as they are in the transition from adolescence to young adulthood where they are just about to be exposed to the real world. This study aimed To explore the effect of inferiority feelings towards student motivation to strive for higher achievement. Qualitative research using Semi-structured interviews was conducted where the data from 8 UNIMAS students was gathered. The interview was recorded, transcribed and then analysed using step-by-step thematic Analysis by Braun & Clarke (2006). The results indicate that inferiority feelings can lead students to be either motivated to strive for higher achievement or impair their lives depending on the way it was perceived. These findings suggest that the mindset that students have is an important indicator that determines the path that inferiority feelings will guide the individuals to. The study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by highlighting both the positive and negative impacts of inferiority feeling which can lead to educational improvement, a better psychological well-being, and offer insights for future research directions
