Abstract
Description
This research examines the competitiveness of micro producers in the food industry in terms of the Internet of Things (IoT) usage. It examines the efficiencies that organizational, physical, and human capital resources on competitiveness and has an important aspect of IoT usage. The research notes that micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the food industry face challenges in maintaining their competitiveness due to the rapid technological changes brought about by IoT as well as the changes brought on by the global economy. Many MSMEs in the food industry are unprepared to revise their structure to compete, due to pressure as a result of the reports of The Star. Limited access to financing diminishes their ability to enhance infrastructure, machinery, and IoT technologies which are essential in improving productivity and competitiveness, in addition to a shortage of skilled workers that understand IoT technology and having the capabilities to assist and develop multi-dimensional problems in micro producers competitiveness. These circumstances such that there needs to be address talent and financial questions with respect to the implications that MSMEs would need to consider to begin IoT; in order to achieve sustainable growth in the changing market place. This study focuses only on micro producers and is based on the Resource-Based View (RBV) theory. Structured surveys were used to gather information from micro producers in Malaysia's food sector as part of a quantitative descriptive research framework. Quota sampling was utilized in the research, with SPSS and partial least squares (PLS) employed to examine the data and conduct mediator analysis. Ultimately, this research will emphasize the significance of combining contemporary technological tools with resource management strategies to stay competitive in the changing market environment. This study was conducted among micro producers food industry in Muar, Johor. Chapter 4 provided an overview of data screening, descriptive statistics, and outcomes of the measurement model, affirming the reliability, validity, and discriminant ability of the constructs. It also evaluated structural relationships and iv mediating influences, showing that Internet of Things (IoT) usage significantly mediates the connection between internal capital resources and competitiveness. The normality test indicated that the data did not conform to a normal distribution; thus, the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method was entirely employed to analyze the research data, apart from the normality test and descriptive statistics, which were assessed using SPSS software. Chapter 5 examined these results through the lens of the Resource-Based View (RBV) theory, illustrating that although capital resources by themselves provide minimal competitive edge, their strategic use through IoT results in significant performance enhancements. The research finds that digital transformation, especially via IoT, boosts micro producers' competitiveness by enhancing operational efficiency and resource optimization, offering theoretical and practical insights for researcher and practitioners alike.
