Abstract

Description

This research explores workplace spirituality practices among employees in Malaysia’s private sector, addressing a growing interest in how spiritual values influence individual and organizational outcomes. The study aimed to examine employees’ understanding of workplace spirituality, identify existing practices, explore supportive elements, and uncover related individual and organizational issues. A qualitative research design was employed using semi-structured interviews with four private sector employees selected through purposive sampling. Thematic analysis was used to interpret the data, uncovering four key themes: limited awareness of workplace spirituality, informal spiritual practices, key supporting elements such as respect and leadership support, and challenges including misinterpretation and lack of inclusive policies. The findings suggest that although formal workplace spirituality programs are rare, personal spiritual expressions and values like kindness and openness are present. These insights highlight the need for organizations to acknowledge and support spirituality in inclusive, non-religious ways to foster employee well-being and engagement. This study contributes to the limited qualitative research on workplace spirituality in Malaysia and offers implications for HR practitioners, organizational leaders, and future researchers.
