Abstract
Optimal preparation is crucial for the successful management of a difficult airway. A preintubation checklist helps reduce the cognitive load in highly stressful situations. Preparation should encompass patient readiness, equipment availability, airway team coordination, and backup plans. The patient should be fully informed to ensure proper consent, be positioned in a head-elevated position, and be adequately preoxygenated. Equipment, including a stylet and bougie, must be readily available, as they can be invaluable during intubation. Continuous capnography is essential to confirm endotracheal tube placement. Additionally, team preparation and contingency planning are critical to minimizing complications and improving success rates.
