| dc.description | The KSSM Chemistry subject is the most challenging subject in the SPM science stream, indicated by high failure rates in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), which educators have expressed desires to alternative methods to teaching Chemistry. Implementation of collaborative learning techniques in a Chemistry class has shown to have significant results in helping tertiary students learn Chemistry topics. Thus, this project aims to study the efficacy of conducting collaborative learning sessions though an immersive 3D digital game in helping Form 4 students learn the KSSM Form 4 Chemistry Subject. The SCRUM Methodology has been used to develop the 3D collaborative puzzle game. Interviews and surveys were conducted to Chemistry teachers and Form 4 students respectively to determine the suitable Chemistry topic to be included in the 3D collaborative game. Next, the game’s features and Product Backlog were outlined to list down the basic requirements to develop the game. The game’s mechanics were also explained in depth and were developed and implemented in short iterations called “sprints”. Two Form 4 classes were chosen for testing of the project. Each class were then divided in two groups, namely the experimental and control groups. Both groups were given a pre-test and post-test, and the control group were given reading material whereas the experimental group played the game. The study yielded that the experimental group achieved significant improvements over the control group. The mean difference between the pre-test and post-test of the control group valued at 0.5, whereas the experimental group had a mean difference of 2.5. Using the paired samples t-test, the control group had a p value of 0.1075, whereas the experimental group achieved a p-value 0.03163. This indicates a positive effect of Objective Terminal in teaching Form 4 students chemistry over conventional studying methods | |
