Abstract

Description

In today’s dynamic and rapidly evolving technological landscape, career resilience has emerged as a critical attribute for sustaining employability, particularly among Information Technology (IT) professionals. This study investigates the relationship between three psychological traits; self-efficacy, optimism, and proactivity and career resilience among IT professionals in the private sector in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A quantitative, cross-sectional design was employed, with data collected through a structured online questionnaire distributed to 140 IT professionals. The research utilized the Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient to examine the associations between the independent variables (self-efficacy, optimism, and proactivity) and the dependent variable (career resilience). The findings revealed significant and positive correlations between all three psychological traits and career resilience, with self-efficacy showing the strongest relationship (ρ = .802), followed by optimism (ρ = .789), and proactivity (ρ = .472). These results underscore the importance of psychological resources in fostering adaptability and perseverance in high-pressure work environments such as the IT industry. The study contributes to the theoretical framework of the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory and offers practical insights for human resource strategies aimed at building a resilient and future-ready IT workforce. Limitations and recommendations for future research are also discussed.
