Abstract
Description
Recycling involves collecting, sorting, and processing waste materials to produce new products, reducing the burden on landfills and contributing to environmental sustainability. Sarawak, specifically Kota Samarahan, faces significant challenges in handling increasing solid waste, with limited recycling infrastructure and inconsistent recycling habits among individuals. Promoting recycling events through traditional methods such as social media and word-of-mouth is often inefficient, leading to missed opportunities for participation and ineffective waste management. Moreover, recyclers encounter issues like improper sorting, lack of transportation, and insufficient knowledge about recycling centres, which hinder their efforts. The KitarCycle mobile application aims to address these issues by providing a centralized platform that integrates automated collection reminders, an innovative scanning feature for identifying recyclables, and an on-demand driver collection service. Additionally, the app offers educational resources to promote proper recycling practices and a reward system to encourage user engagement. KitarCycle aims to promote regular recycling habits and contribute to a more sustainable environment in Kota Samarahan by simplifying the recycling process and making it more accessible. The expected outcome of this project include increased community participation, reduced landfill burden, and the formation of a sustainable culture.
