Abstract
Description
This study investigates the challenges faced by eldest daughters, focusing on their roles, responsibilities, and the impact of the challenges on eldest daughters. Guided by Bowen’s Family Systems Theory and Alfred Adler’s Birth Order Theory, the research examines how these challenges impact the psychological and emotional well-being of eldest daughters. The study highlights caregiving, decision-making, and being role models as central roles, while responsibilities include household management and balancing familial obligations. Family expectations, shaped by cultural and societal pressures, are identified as a critical factor contributing to stress, anxiety, and perfectionism, alongside positive outcomes like resilience and leadership. Using a qualitative approach, the study aims to explore the interplay between their challenges and the resulting impacts. Findings offer valuable insights for parents, educators, and mental health professionals to better understand and support eldest daughters in navigating their family roles. By addressing the challenges and their impact, this research contributes to the literature on family dynamics and the experiences of eldest children, particularly daughters, in various cultural and socioeconomic contexts.
