Abstract
Description
This study aims to explore the integration of Technological, Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in teaching Communicative Malay Language (BMK) for Special Educational Needs Students with Intellectual Disabilities (MBPK KUI) in the Special Education Integrated Programme (SEIP). Teaching BMK for MBPK KUI in SEIP requires specific approaches through teachers' mastery of various knowledge and skills. However, the extent of technological, pedagogical, content knowledge and UDL principles among SEIP teachers still needs to be explored to ensure effective teaching. The integration of all these elements in teaching BMK for MBPK KUI has also received little attention in existing research, particularly in SEIP. This qualitative study involved four SEIP teachers who teach BMK at two different schools. The data collected through structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. The findings showed a balanced use of low and high technology in BMK teaching, with the integration of UDL principles that support diverse learning approaches. Various and flexible pedagogical strategies were used to meet the different learning needs of MBPK KUI students, while BMK content was adapted according to students' ability levels with authentic situations. Best practices identified include the BMK mentor program, daily situation simulations, production of digital learning materials, and visual monitoring charts. Based on the research findings, the Benton-Borghi TPACK-UDL Model was adapted to produce a comprehensive BMK teaching framework suitable for the SEIP context. This adapted model effectively combines TPACK elements and UDL principles, supported by relevant learning vii theories to provide a teaching framework that considers the specific needs and implementation realities of BMK teaching for MBPK KUI students in SEIP.
