| dc.description | An increment in the number of divorces was reported every year in Sarawak. A high percentage of divorces consists of couples who have been married for less than 5 years for various external reasons. Financial issues, irresponsible husbands and infidelity are among the highest reasons for divorce reported every year. However, there are no reports regarding the internal processes of marriage, interactions and psychological aspects that occur during marriage that influence the decrease in the level of satisfaction and quality of marriage that leads or contributes to divorce. Therefore, a phenomenological qualitative study was conducted to explore the experience of divorcees at the early stage of their marriage, especially among women who reside in Kuching. A total of 30 divorced women in Kuching, Sarawak were interviewed using semi-structured questions to explore their experiences throughout the 5 years of their marriage. The research data was analyse using the IPA (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis) approach. The results of the analysis found 8 main themes and 22 sub-themes behind the early divorce in Kuching, Sarawak, which are finding reality different from expectations, facing many communication barriers, the feeling of disenchantment, being ignored, coping the problems alone, divorce as an end to suffering and fighting to start over. The Cohen Kappa Reliability Index of the results of this study is K = 0.815. This study developed the Early Marital Adjustment Model (Model Penyesuaian Awal Perkahwinan), an intervention aimed at assisting couples in adapting to the early stages of marriage and preventing divorce during this critical period. | |
