| dc.description | This study explores employee perceptions of workplace happiness within the forestry public sector in Sandakan, Sabah. With increasing attention given to employee well-being, this research aims to understand how forestry public sector employees define happiness, identify factors that enhance or hinder workplace happiness, and examine the influence of organizational culture, leadership, and interpersonal relationships on their experiences. Guided by Seligman’s Authentic Happiness Theory, a qualitative design was used, which included semi-structured interviews with seven employees who have two or more years of work experience and are from various positions in the organization. Thematic analysis identified four major themes: family and personal achievement, positive work environment, teamwork and good leadership, and organizational culture and support. Employees expressed pleasure with the teamwork-oriented culture and empathic leadership, but they also highlighted concerns such as workload pressure and negative attitudes from some colleagues. The findings indicate that employees’ happiness is affected by both personal and organizational characteristics, and it is strongly linked to emotional support and fair leadership. This study provides guidance for public-sector organizations seeking to implement strategies that promote a positive workplace environment while also improving employee well-being and performance. It is also helpful for human resources to design a training program to boost employees’ morale. | |
