Abstract
Description
The study examined the relationship between four dimensions of psychological empowerment and the Three-Component Model of organisational commitment (TCM). The sample was selected through a random cluster sampling among management and professional group from public higher education institution Kota Samarahan. Online questionnaires were used as instruments of data collection. All variables under study have met the testing standard of reliability, validity and normality. SPSS version 27 was used to analyse the data obtained from 127 respondents of the study. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse the levels of organisational commitment and psychological empowerment. Pearson correlation was used to examine the relationship between psychological empowerment and organisational commitment. The levels of organisational commitment of respondents were reported to be generally moderate. However, psychological empowerment were reported to be generally high. The results of Pearson’s correlation revealed a significant relationship and positive correlation between all these four dimensions of psychological empowerment and overall organisational commitment with overall psychological empowerment and its four-dimensional components. The strongest relationship was identified between psychological empowerment’s dimension of competence and overall organisational commitment. The lowest relationship was identified between psychological empowerment’s dimension of self-determination and overall organisational commitment. As a conclusion, the study has revealed an evidence of a significant relationship between empowerment practices with organisational commitment among the management and professional staff in public higher education Institution Kota Samarahan. The study has its suggestion towards administrative improvement and policies in public higher education institution in Malaysia.
