Abstract
Description
In this project, an AIoT Smart Door Lock—a secure, keyless home entry system that combines artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT)—is designed, developed, and evaluated. By leveraging real-time facial recognition as its primary authentication approach, which is processed on-device using a Raspberry Pi 4, the system overcomes the security shortcomings of traditional smart locks. It includes an alternative entry method for temporary visitors using dynamically generated QR codes for more flexibility. Key features include a PIR sensor for motion detection, a Blynk mobile app for complete remote management, and real-time intrusion notifications with picture snapshots sent via a Telegram bot. Through thorough User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with a variety of user groups, the prototype's efficacy was assessed. Functional testing verified the successful operation of all essential functionalities, such as remote controls, QR code access, and facial recognition in a various condition. The system's user-friendly interface and notable improvement in home security were praised by users, who also pointed out that system response time needed to be improved in the future. This study presents a successful proof-of-concept for an intelligent home security system with many layers that provides a reliable and adaptable substitute for traditional smart locks.
