This study investigates the determinants of life expectancy in Malaysia. The study adopted annual data of GDP per capita, inflation rate, mortality rate, and unemployment rate, which range from 1990 to 2022. Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) unit root test, Johansen and Juselius cointegration test, and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) are used to examine the relationship between life expectancy and its determinants. Granger Causality based on Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) revealed an unidirectional short run causality from inflation rate to GDP per capita, from mortality rate to GDP per capita, from mortality rate to inflation rate, from inflation rate to unemployment rate, from mortality rate to unemployment rate, and from life expectancy to unemployment rate. The findings obtained are beneficial for the government and policymakers to implement and improve life expectancy in Malaysia.
