| dc.description | The Iban community is famous for the variety of gawai festivals associated with animistic beliefs such as Gawai Burong, Gawai Dayak, Gawai Tuah and Gawai Sakit. Each gawai held has a special timang that will be sung or sung by lemambang. This research focuses on the meaning of the oral tradition of leka timang used during Gawai Burong. In addition, the researchers examined the clashes and changes that have a significant impact on the oral tradition of timang today. In addition, this research also focuses on appropriate improvement and preservation strategies to preserve the oral tradition of timang among the current generation. This research was conducted in Pakan District, Sarikei, Sarawak. To obtain information directly from informants, researchers have used structured and unstructured interview methods. Based on this research, Gawai Kelingkang Nanga or Gawai Kelingkang Burong is the highest gawai among Gawai Burong conducted by the Iban community. Gawai Kelingkang Nanga or Burong is less relevant nowadays. This is so, Gawai Kelingkang Nanga or Burong is a gawai that can only be organized by Tuai Serang or Tuai Kayau who have been successful in Ngayau expeditions. In addition, the timang Gawai Kelingkang Nanga is the longest timang gawai among other timang Gawai Burong. In conclusion, the researchers suggested that more research related to the oral traditions of the Iban community based on various perspectives and categories. Only with such research, oral traditions can be maintained and promoted to new generations and the outside community. | |
