The increasing ageing population presents significant challenges to healthcare systems worldwide, including Malaysia, where older adults are projected to comprise 15% of the population by 2030. Nurses play a crucial role in caring for older adults, yet research indicates that nursing students may hold ageist attitudes that can affect care quality. This study aimed to assess the knowledge of older adults’ care and its relation to ageism attitudes among undergraduate nursing students in UNIMAS. A quantitative, cross-sectional research design was employed, involving 162 randomly selected students from Year 1 to Year 4. Data were collected using a self-administered printed questionnaire, which consisted of sociodemographic items, the Knowledge of Older Adults’ Care scale, and the Ageism Attitude Scale (AAS). Descriptive statistics summarised students’ socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge, and attitudes, while Spearman’s correlation was used to analyse the relationship between knowledge and attitudes. The findings revealed that students demonstrated a generally good level of knowledge and positive attitudes toward older adults. The Spearman’s correlation coefficient showed a weak but statistically significant positive correlation between the two variables, suggesting that higher knowledge is weakly associated with more positive attitudes. These results highlight the importance of enhancing gerontology education and implementing targeted strategies to further improve students’ attitudes. Continuous curriculum development, structured clinical exposure, and attitudinal interventions are essential to preparing nursing students for competent and compassionate care of the ageing population.
