Abstract

Description

Budgeting is an essential skill in money management, and ignoring its importance leads to unwise financial decisions. As young adults are increasingly reported to lack financial security, it is important to educate this age demographic on budgeting and its importance. This project aims to assess the effectiveness of teaching budgeting to young adults through game-based learning. The methodology used for this project is the Outcome-based methodology for developing a game-based learning environment. To determine the learning outcomes that will be included in the game, a review of the EBU1063’s course content outlines was done along with a survey distributed to young adults to understand their difficulties in money management. The results of the survey also serve to guide the game design and genre. Based on the results, four learning objectives are to be included in the game and the game developed will be a strategy adventure role-playing game.
