This qualitative study explores the ethical dilemmas and challenges faced by site supervisors in Malaysian organisations, focusing on boundary limitations, confidentiality issues, and competency gaps in supervision. Site supervisors play a pivotal role in guiding and evaluating trainee counselors, yet they often encounter ethical complexities that can compromise the integrity of the supervision process. Using purposive sampling, six supervisors from five different organisations participated in in-depth, semi-structured interviews. Their experiences highlighted recurring struggles such as balancing confidentiality with institutional expectations, managing dual relationships, addressing gaps in ethical awareness, and handling sensitive supervisee issues with discretion The findings were interpreted through the lens of Kitchener’s Ethical Principles, providing a structured framework for understanding ethical decision-making in supervision. This study contributes to the local counseling field by highlighting the need for clearer supervision guidelines, targeted ethics training, and institutional support. It also offers insights for policy development and improvements in counselor education and professional supervision practices in Malaysia.
