Abstract

Description

Kuching, the capital of Sarawak, Malaysia, is known for its rich cultural and historical heritage. Tourists, on the other hand, frequently struggle to navigate and fully appreciate the city's historical landmarks due to a lack of interactive and educational resources. To address this gap, this project introduces the "Kuching Historical Tour Guide Mobile Application (LelengauKch)", a digital solution designed to enhance the historical tourism experience. The mobile application, built with the Flutter framework and Dart programming language, includes features like location-based navigation powered by the Google Maps API, a chatbot for historical enquiries, interactive quizzes, and a platform for sharing news and events. These features are intended to provide an engaging, educational, and user-friendly interface for discovering Kuching's historical heritage. The project uses an Agile methodology, which combines Extreme Programming (XP) and Kanban practices, to ensure flexibility, continuous feedback, and high-quality output during development. This study conducts evaluation of 3 existing tour guide mobile applications to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Survey feedback helps to refine the application's features so that they meet user expectations. The application's usability and functionality have been evaluated by 31 respondents, with results indicating a positive and promising improvement in the overall user experience. Overall, "LelengauKch" aims to preserve Kuching's historical significance while promoting local tourism, bridging the gap between tradition and modern technology.
