Abstract

Examination of recent material of the gecarcinucid freshwater crab genus Thelphusula Bott, 1969, a genus endemic to Borneo, showed that Gecarcinucus (Cylindrothelphusa) buergeri lebangensis Balss, 1937, described from the Kapuas drainage in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, is a valid species, and not a junior synonym of T. buergeri (De Man, 1899). Both taxa, T. buergeri and T. lebangensis are rediagnosed and figured. A new species from central Sarawak with a distinctive curved male first gonopod, T. falciphallus, is also described. It is morphologically closest to T. granosa Holthuis, 1979, T. dicerophilus Ng & Stuebing, 1990, and T. sabana Tan & Ng, 1998, but easy distinguished by its gonopod structure as well as other characters of the carapace and frontal margins.
