This research investigates how employee retention in Kuching, Sarawak's retail industry, is impacted by learning and development practices, particularly coaching, mentoring, and job training. The study, which is based on Social Exchange Theory (SET), asserts that when businesses support employees' growth, those employees are more likely to return the favour by being loyal and committed over the long run. Structured questionnaires were used to gather data. A sample of retail employees from companies in Kuching was given structured questionnaires as part of a quantitative study design. Analysis was done on 81 valid responses. To ascertain the significance and value of the relationships between learning and development practices and employee retention, the responses were examined using Spearman's Rank Correlation. The findings revealed significant positive relationships across all three variables. Mentoring demonstrated the strongest correlation among the three with (ρ = 0.552), followed by job training (ρ = 0.482) and coaching (ρ = 0.451). These results confirm that wellstructured and employee-focused development practices can enhance job satisfaction, performance, and ultimately, retention. This study proposes formalizing coaching, mentoring, and customized training programs as strategic strategies to lower turnover, which has major implications for HR professionals and organizations.
