| dc.description | This study investigates the relationship between smartphone dependency and social anxiety among university students from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). As smartphone usage becomes increasingly prevalent among young adults, concerns have emerged regarding its psychological impact, particularly in relation to mental health and interpersonal functioning. Utilizing a quantitative correlational research design, this study collected data from a sample of undergraduate students from both institutions through standardized questionnaires measuring levels of smartphone dependency and social anxiety. The findings reveal a significant positive correlation between smartphone dependency and social anxiety, indicating that higher levels of dependency are associated with increased social anxiety symptoms. Additionally, comparative analysis highlights any notable differences between the two universities in terms of dependency patterns and anxiety levels. The study underscores the importance of promoting balanced smartphone use and developing strategies to mitigate its potential negative psychological effects among university students. Implications for mental health awareness and digital well-being initiatives are also discussed. | |
