Exploration of UNIMAS Undergraduate Nursing Students’ Perception towards Effective Clinical Supervision

| dc.description | This study explores UNIMAS undergraduate nursing students’ perceptions of effective clinical supervision. Effective clinical supervision is a vital component of nursing education as it enhances students’ clinical competencies, confidence, and professional development. This research adopted a qualitative descriptive design utilizing semi-structured interviews with Year 4 UNIMAS undergraduate nursing students to gain in-depth understanding of their perceptions, benefits, challenges, and coping strategies in relation to clinical supervision. Thematic analysis revealed four key themes: perceptions of clinical supervision, perceived benefits of supervision, challenges faced during supervision, and adaptive coping mechanisms. Findings show that effective supervision is characterized by supportive, approachable, and knowledgeable supervisors who provide regular constructive feedback and guidance. Conversely, challenges such as lack of supervisor engagement, negative attitudes, and insufficient feedback can hinder student learning and affect their well-being. Students demonstrated resilience by utilizing peer support, emotional regulation, and self-reflective learning. The study concludes that enhancing supervisor training, creating supportive supervision environments, and implementing peer-mentorship programs will help improve students’ clinical learning experiences and outcomes. | |
