| dc.description | This research aimed to identify the realism theory presented in four Malaysian Indie novels entitled Aku Rindu 90’s (2012), Surat-Surat Untuk Kaherah (2013), Kunang Pesisir Morten (2013) and Budak Kelas Belakang (2018). This is a qualitative research employing the realism framework theory by Lukacs (1963). Structural analysis was used to identify the views, visions, hopes and significant values as well as their impact in improving the quality of life of society. The objectives of this research were to identify the existence of realism theory in the Indie novels, to provide evidence that Indie masterpieces are equivalent to other mainstream pieces and to determine a new definition which is more accurate and fair to Indie novels which is evolving as a new literary stream in Malaysia. Research findings indicated that there was a complete evidence of realism theory covering social, educational, economic, political and religious aspects in all the four novels analysed. The findings showed that Indie novels also conveyed serious thinking that impacts society, particularly on social, educational, economic, political and religious development of a society. Indie novels were also found to be on par with other mainstream novels. The findings also showed that positive and fair valuation and definition should be given towards Indie novels. All findings have shown that Indie novels are equivalent to other literary genres in Malaysia. | |
