This study investigates the relationship between online shopping addiction and psychological well-being among Malaysian undergraduate students. It focuses on how online shopping addiction, influenced by social media, impacts students' mental health, stress levels, and life satisfaction. The research aims to provide insights into managing online shopping behaviors and promoting healthier coping mechanisms and financial habits among undergraduates’ students. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, collecting responses from 160 Malaysian undergraduate students aged 19 to 30 years. The survey utilized the Online Shopping Addiction Scale (OSAS) to measure online shopping addiction and Ryff's Psychological Well-Being Scale (RPWBS) to measure psychological well-being. The study found a weak but significant negative relationship between online shopping addiction and psychological well-being among Malaysian undergraduate students (r = -0.224, n = 160, p = 0.05). Significant differences were found across students of different ages, while no significant differences were found in gender and socioeconomic status. The study was limited by a small sample size and the limited generalizability of the findings. Future research should increase sample size and diversity, incorporate face-to-face data collection, and conduct longitudinal studies to better understand online shopping addiction's impact on psychological well-being. This study contributes to a growing understanding of the complex effects of online shopping addiction and underscores the need for further investigation.
