| dc.description | This thesis explores the family environment of the Z Generation children who were born between 1998 and 2012. Generation Z is also known as the technology generation who grows up in a world connected through technology. The research was conducted at a religious national school in Kuching, which was recognized as Cluster School of Excellence Phase 5. Qualitative research method was utilized to collect data and the research involved 20 respondents among parents whose children are students of the school and aged between 10 and 12 years old. A comprehensive research data was obtained through an interview with the respondents, individually. The data was then analyzed using thematic analysis method. There are three main themes in the research which include: (1) Changes in the family as experienced by parents, (2) The Z Generation children’s family environment and (3) Parenting Trend imparted to the Z Generation children. The research reported that there were few significant changes experienced by the parents and these involved the children’s acquiescence, parents’ attentiveness and parents’ challenges in raising the Z Generation children. The Z Generation children’s family environment varies with regard to parents’ roles, activities spent together, communication and spiritual aspects emphasized within the family. The Z Generation parents prefer nurturing their children to be independent, having frequent discussions with them, strict, and being supportive and understanding. The research also revealed that there were interactions between the aspects of changes in the family life which are experienced by the parents nowadays, the family environment of the Z Generation and the parenting trend of the Z Generation children. Generally, the research vii outcome would benefit the parents, teachers and counsellors in implementing programs and interventions as source of references to raise the Z Generation children. | |
