| dc.description | This study aims to examine the relationship between career development opportunities (coaching, training programs and promotion) and employee retention at the retail organization. The objectives of this study were to examine the relationship between career development opportunities and employee retention at the retail organization. This research is grounded in Expectancy Theory and the Ability, Motivation, and Opportunity (AMO) Model. The study used quantitative research design involving a population of 100 retail workers at one of the supermarkets in Kuching, Sarawak with a maximum sample size of 80 respondents. Data was collected through a questionnaire distributed online via Google Forms. Then, the data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The relationship between career development opportunities and employee retention was analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient meanwhile the dominant career development opportunity affecting employee retention was identified by using multiple linear regression. The findings revealed that researchers fail to reject all the alternative hypotheses and there is a moderate positive relationship between career development and opportunities and employee retention. The results also show that among all the variables studied, training programs are the most dominant career development opportunity affecting employee retention. Hence, based on this study, it is recommended that organizations should consider focusing on creating training programs in order to reduce employee turnover rate and subsequently improve employee retention in the organization. | |
