Abstract
Description
The priority of producing quality TVET graduates in the surge climate of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (4IR) has made trainers play an important role. Trainers should also have quality expertise and competencies in their teaching classes. Therefore, this study examines how TVET lecturers integrate technology into their teaching through the theory framework of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK). Using a mixed method study approach that combines survey data from 62 TVET lecturers of community colleges in Sarawak with focus group data, an in-depth explanation is available on how they integrate technology into teaching and learning. Overall, the findings of the mixed method study showed that TVET lecturers have a moderate level of technological pedagogical content knowledge. They demonstrate a high knowledge in technology but their ability to adapt the use of technology to different teaching activities is still limited. TVET lecturers tend to use technologies such as technological equipment according to taught fields, computer technology, free web services, teaching and learning software, smartphones and social applications in teaching and learning. Therefore, in order to realize the government's desire to produce quality TVET graduates, the role of TVET lecturers as knowledgeable and camping teachers should also be on the agenda in generating skilled human capital using TVET.
