The tattoo art tradition of the Iban community is a symbol and cultural identity of the community in the form of belief and appreciation through the traditional wisdom that inherited from generation to generation to form a belief, art, and manifestation in culture. The tradition of tattoo art practiced by the Iban community has a very significant artistic value so that categorized as an intangible heritage. However, changes in globalization have changed the way the Iban community thinks about the tattoo tradition practiced by their ancestors. This is because there are some of the younger generations of the Iban community nowadays who seem to be less aware of the true purpose of tattooing the Iban community. Therefore, through this research, the aim is to preserve the tradition of tattoos found in the culture of the Iban community. The tradition of tattoo art of the Iban community is a tradition practiced by their ancestors in ancient times until today. This research uses an exploratory research design that used to explore the daily life of the Iban community. This research uses a qualitative approach that requires the researcher to conduct a data collection process in the form of a fieldwork study that uses participant observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this research can form measures to maintain the practice of traditional tattoo art in the culture of the Iban community. The purpose is to continue to create the artistic and cultural values of the Iban community in the tradition of tattoo art practiced by them. Overall, this research can preserve, maintain and be a pioneer for research related to the tradition of indigenous tattoo art in the future.
