dc.descriptionThe management of traffic during partial road closures is a significant challenge, particularly in rural areas with limited infrastructure. The Portable Wireless Traffic Control System for Partial Road Closures aims to address this issue by developing an offline, portable system that enables traffic wardens to efficiently manage traffic signals through real-time synchronization and manual overrides. The system employs a Master-Slave architecture, where two ESP32 microcontrollers communicate wirelessly to control two traffic signals, ensuring seamless operation during road closures. The system also includes a mobile application that allows traffic wardens to monitor traffic signal statuses, adjust countdown timers, and override signal sequences. This project follows an iterative development approach, utilizing Agile methodology to incorporate continuous feedback and refine the system according to user needs. The system is designed to be portable, robust, and easy to use, even in areas with no internet connectivity. Through an interview and surveys with traffic wardens and road users, the project identified key features required for an effective traffic control system. The results emphasize the importance of real-time adaptability, manual control, and synchronization between traffic signals, all of which are addressed in the Portable Wireless Traffic Control System. The findings highlight the system's potential to improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, and provide better control during temporary road closures.
