| dc.description | This paper explores the role of female participation in enhancing strategic planning and decision-making within the Malaysian energy sector. The energy sector is an ever-evolving landscape that plays a crucial role in contributing to the economic growth of Malaysia and should therefore assess avenues for potential improvement. Despite the potential benefits of female participation in strategic planning and decision-making roles, companies within the Malaysian energy sector are still lagging in this area, with few females making up the gender composition of leadership teams. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between female participation and enhanced strategic planning as well as decision-making. In addition to that, the aim of the study is also to identify the barriers to female participation as well as recommending strategies to overcome these barriers. This research will utilize a qualitative research method for data analysis. Data will be collected through the application of interview sessions with executives and middle managers within the Malaysian energy sector. Therefore, a conceptual framework linking female participation and enhanced strategic planning and decision-making is proposed to explore (1) the impact of female participation in executive roles; (2) the barriers to female participation; and (3) the strategies to enhance female participation. The findings demonstrated that executives and middle managers can identify the unique contributions of female leadership, the barriers against female participation, and the strategies to enhance female participation. The proposed framework and findings within the study would assist in identifying the unique contributions of female leadership and the barriers to female participation as well as providing strategies to address the leadership pipeline gap. Future research would have to utilize more quantitative methods to establish a more data-driven link between gender-diverse leadership and organizational effectiveness helps provide a stronger business case for inclusion by presenting tangible values. | |
