The Influence of Stress Towards Quality of Life Among UNIMAS Undergraduate Nursing Students

dc.descriptionHigh levels of academic and clinical stress are frequently experienced by nursing students, which can significantly impact their overall quality of life (QoL). At Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), the nursing students’ well-being may be impacted by unique challenges presented by the demanding nursing curriculum and intensive clinical training. The purpose of this research is to investigate the level of stress, identify the QoL and examine the relationship between stress and QoL among undergraduate nursing students at UNIMAS. A quantitative cross-sectional design was used, involving 139 students. Student Nurse Stress Index (SNSI) was used to assess the level of stress and World Health Organization Quality of Life – Brief Version (WHOQOL-BREF) was utilized to assess the quality of life of the students. The findings showed a moderate level of stress (M = 51.74, SD = 15.00) and a generally good quality of life (Mdn = 65.38). A significant moderate negative correlation was found between stress and QoL, 𝑟𝑠(137) = –.330, p < .001, indicating the higher stress the stress level, the lower the quality of life. Based on these results, it is recommended that the university enhance campus facilities, implement routine stress and QoL screenings, and develop inclusive support systems to address student well-being comprehensively.
