Abstract
Description
This study explores the influence of social factors on entrepreneurial intention among university students in Sarawak. The four independent variables examined in this research are peer influence, family support, role model, and hustle culture, with entrepreneurial intention as the dependent variable. A quantitative method was used, where data were collected from 311 university students across various institutions in Sarawak through an online questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS, involving descriptive analysis, correlation tests, t-tests, ANOVA, and multiple regression. The findings revealed that peer influence, role model, and hustle culture have significant and positive relationships with entrepreneurial intention. Interestingly, family support showed a significant but negative effect. This suggests that while peers and cultural motivations can encourage entrepreneurship, traditional family expectations might act as a barrier. The study highlights the importance of social environments in shaping students’ career interests and provides useful insights for educators and policymakers to better support youth entrepreneurship development in Malaysia.
