| dc.description | This paper examines the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the manufacturing sector in selected ASEAN countries, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam over the period from 1990 to 2023. Using various econometric techniques, the analysis explores the relationship between manufacturing GDP and several key macroeconomic variables, including FDI inflows, exchange rate, inflation rate, and exports. The empirical findings reveal that FDI plays a significant role in influencing manufacturing sector performance, particularly in Thailand and Vietnam, where both long-run and short-run relationships are evident. However, the impact of FDI varies across countries, and in the case of Malaysia and Indonesia, the long-run adjustment is weaker. Moreover, inflation and exchange rate also emerge as important determinants of manufacturing performance, while exports show a more country-specific influence. These results suggest that while FDI contributes to industrial growth, its effectiveness is shaped by the broader macroeconomic environment and structural conditions in each country. | |
