This study aimed to investigate the influence of music on working memory performances based on total correct recalled. Several past research have shown that different types of music have different influence on verbal and visual working memory. 45 participants from the undergraduates’ students of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) have participated in the study and performed Reading Span Task and Matrix Span Task to assess verbal and visual working memory performance. One-way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis H Test were used to test the hypothesis. The result of this study showed that there is a significant difference between the music groups in verbal working memory performance based on total correct recalled while there is no significant difference between the music groups in visual working memory performance based on total correct recalled. Several limitations were found in this study. The main implication of this study is that vocal music might have its potential utility in tasks involving verbal working memory.
