| dc.description | The relationship between director remuneration and firm performance among the firms that are listed on the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia (F4GBM) Index was the study. Based on the panel data on 43 companies within a five-year frame (2019-2023), the study used the fixed-effects regression model to examine the roles of director pay, bonuses, and total remuneration in terms of Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and Earnings Per Share (EPS). Results reveal that separately, both director pay and bonuses were negatively related but not significantly with firm performance, whereas total director remuneration yielded positive relationships that were statistically significant on all three of the performance variables. Moreover, control variables indicated that the size of firms has a positive and statistically significant effect on performance, and firm leverage has a negative and strong effect. The general relationship between firm age and the other variables was negative, which was significant in ROA and ROE not in EPS. Conclusively, the study emphasizes that the design and implementation of remuneration packages are a major determinant of performance in the F4GBM Index, as well as the influence of firm-specific features, such as size and leverage. | |
