| dc.description | Oral and written languages are two distinctive language entities. However, the written language is said to be more difficult to master because it involves many aspects. Among these aspects are the aspects of vocabulary enrichment and the multiple meanings of each word. Lack of vocabulary and acquiring the meaning of words among language users, especially in the subject of bahasa Melayu writing has caused various problems such as not being critical and creative when writing, thus raises the risk of misunderstanding and being misunderstood, perhaps may induce negative perception of the national language. This study therefore presents three objectives, namely, to analyze and describe vocabulary that has synonymous meanings and suggests polices for the purpose of enriching vocabulary and meaning in selected novels based on Meaning Field Theory and Relevance Theory. The third objective, however, is to analyze and describe the vocabulary of local languages and dialects that are suitable as an entry in Kamus Dewan to enrich the vocabulary and meaning in bahasa Melayu. This study is using a descriptive qualitative research method. The methodology used in this study is library research, document analysis, of a novel Penebus Kalbu by Abang Median Abang Said and unstructured interviews. Out of the 330 vocabulary corpus data that was listed from the novel analysed, only 24 words were randomly selected for analysis and interpretation. The vocabulary consists of 10 root words for synonym aspects, 10 root words for polysem aspects and 4 words for syllabic and dialect vocabulary. The results of the analysis and the study found that the analysed vocabulary are contributing vocabulary and meaning to the bahasa Melayu. The for words of ethnic language and dialect are also seen in the Kamus Dewan entry, therefore suitable to enrich the vocabulary of bahasa Melayu. This study suggest that such studies need to be conducted from time to time vi to discover and pass on knowledge of the bahasa Melayu to its users that the bahasa Melayu also has its own standards, even once the lingua franca of South East Asian. In addition, studies of ethnic languages and dialects are also seen very significant to add words of vocabulary to enrich the vocabulary of bahasa Melayu. | |
